A collaboration with Barcelona-based artist Carla Cascales Alimbau, GAIA translates her minimalist aesthetic and poetic approach to materiality into nuanced textures, flowing lines and gentle variations brought to life in silk, wool, linen
and jute. The resulting rugs embody a shared devotion to craft, a reverence for natural imperfection and an enduring artistry made to be treasured for generations.

GAIA unfolds across six rugs, each one a woven meditation on sceneries shaped by wind, water and time. Marea ripples with hand-carved wool gradients, reminiscent of tidal rhythms and mountain terrains, while Alma’s oxidised silk-and-wool pile shimmers with tonal shifts as light dances across its fine patinated surface. Cirrus rises in soft, cloud-like bands, offering a plush serenity
that invites pause and reflection, while a trio of flat-weave rugs, Aerie, Palloza and Willow – ground the home with their low-profile strength, subtle patterning and harmonious tactility. Unified by earthen hues inspired by Carla’s terracotta and resin works, the collection blends artistry and innovation to reimagine what a woven landscape can be.

to horizon
The creation of GAIA was a years-long process of shared exploration, marrying Carla Cascales Alimbau’s artistic vision with Armadillo’s singular craftsmanship. From her Barcelona studio to the weaving workshops of India, co-founders Jodie
Fried and Sally Pottharst worked with artisans to explore pile heights, surface dimension and color gradients. What emerges from the tactile dialogue of hue and texture is an evolution of tradition that expands the possibilities of material expression.

Chiaroscuro –
Landscape in motion
Chiaroscuro is a cinematic exploration of creation, connection and the ebb and flow of the natural world. Conceived as both a response to Armadillo’s hand-hewn design philosophy and a personal ode by Oscar-winning cinematographer Greig Fraser to his life partner, Jodie Fried, the film traces the journey of the collection from inspiration to tangible form.
Tenderly captured across Australia, India, Nepal and Carla’s Barcelona studio, each frame celebrates material mastery and the interplay of light, movement and texture, offering a visual experience that honors both the artistry of the makers and the landscapes that shape their work.
