Who We Are

Our founders, Jodie Fried and Sally Pottharst, created Armadillo&Co in 2009.

Their vision to establish a company committed to ethical production gained momentum after seeing an opportunity in the Australian market for simple, handmade, quality rugs. Complementary backgrounds – Jodie’s in production and costume design and Sally’s in finance and accounting – meant their intention to make a positive impact within weavers’ communities quickly became a reality.

Our rugs are crafted from sustainable natural fibres selected for their textural and tactile qualities, while our outdoor collection uses recycled PET fibres.

We fervently believe in the cornerstones of our brand. Our commitment to social responsibility, sustainable practices and to helping to support the community of artisans who hand make all of our products is what separates us from traditional rug manufacturers and retailers.

Natural & Sustainable

Environmental responsibility is a key value. We strive for our products and processes to leave little impact on the earth and embrace a reuse, reduce and recycle philosophy. We continuously work to conserve and reduce resources and energy consumption as we grow. Our materials are carefully sourced natural, recycled and sustainable fibres.

100% Handmade

From the hands that prepare and dye our yarns, to those that weave and finish our rugs – each of our products is infused with a rich history of ancient craftsmanship and made using Fair Trade practices. Our extended family of artisans is integral to their community’s livelihood and, importantly, is carrying on a lineage that deserves preservation.

Socially Responsible

We believe in giving back to those who give so much to us. We are the sole sponsor of a school in one weavers’ village and help fund The Anganwadi Project’s preschools. We are ardent members of Care & Fair. Every purchase helps provide employment to our artisans, support to their schools and build brighter futures for underprivileged children.
