Bethany
Cecins

Trade Account Manager – NSW

Developing long-term relationships is what Bethany, our NSW Trade Account Manager, does best. She is often on the road, visiting the interior designers in their studios to be briefed on the latest residential and commercial projects and assist with rug specifications. Bethany’s work blends her creative eye and communication skills as an ex-fashion buyer and wholesaler with her love of organization and working on highly varied projects. She finds a great deal of satisfaction in giving back to the underprivileged communities and in working with “an amazing product”.

Bethany is a fan of American architect John Lautner, who is known for his modern, ‘space age’ designs. When asked where she would place one of our rugs, she nominates his houses – “I think they’d be amazing in there”.

Jan
Dinos

Warehouse Manager

With a caring nature and an efficient manner, our Warehouse Manager, Jan, came to us from a career in Indigenous youth work and sales. Enjoying the challenges of working for a fast growing company, Jan ably oversees the receipt, storage and dispatch of our rugs. Her love of all things textile drew her to working with us. However, she readily admits that what she loves most now is the extent of our care, commitment, support and love for our artisans’ families and The Anganwadi Project. Listening to the founders speak about the project will often move Jan to tears.

Jan is obsessed with proportions in interior design, so her best tip is to follow the golden ratio and to use rugs anywhere and everywhere.

Caroline
Edwards

General Manager

Keeping the big picture in mind and steering us all in the right direction with energy, is tasked to our General Manager Caroline. Originally from Limoges, France, she bought her international management expertise from the corporate world into the development and ongoing growth of our company. Caroline says knowing our weavers’ families are receiving a sustainable income is a strong motivation for her daily work.

The mother of two young children, Caroline is our polyglot and speaks Mandarin as well French. She worked for seven years in China before moving to Australia. Her advice for others when decorating is to not be afraid to add colours for homeliness and personality and to be generous with rug sizing. “It will transform your space.”

Jodie
Fried

Founder & Creative Director

Armadillo&Co’s creative direction of the product, branding and aesthetic culture is driven by Jodie, whose boundless energy and desire to make a lasting difference inspires everyone at Armadillo&Co.

Jodie’s background is as a film/theatre designer and she was working with a dance company in India when an earthquake devastated the region. She stayed for the next few years to help the communities rebuild their lives and homes.

This humbling experience led to the birth of her first homewares company, Bholu, (where Jodie and Sally met) which generated incomes for underprivileged Indian women who created the handmade textiles.

Jodie is extremely passionate about Fair Trade, Social Responsibility and community engagement. The Armadillo&Co product and process is all inspired by the artisans they work so closely with. She co-founded The Anganwadi Project in 2005, which builds preschools for underprivileged children and is currently the President.

Jodie lives in sunny Los Angeles with her cinematographer husband and three young children.

Jackie, our Account Manager, has a deep passion for our products and the artisans who craft them. Describing herself as a “professional rug enthusiast”, she is the contact for our Victorian stockists. In 2015, Jackie travelled to India to take part in a Steps For Schools challenge to raise funds for The Anganwadi Project. While there, she spent a joyful day conducting a craft workshop with children in one of The Anganwadi Project preschools, which led to the designs of our bespoke fundraising collection the Origami Collection.

Jackie says her own home is “calm, warm and ever evolving” and filled with her favourite people and dogs. As for what motivates her, she says, “I want to be someone my girls are proud of.”

Lucy

Production Manager

Carefully planning, coordinating and managing every stage, Lucy our Production Manager brings the necessary order and calm detail to the process of hand crafting our rugs. Her position, while based in Sydney, sees her communicating daily with our team in India, as well as visiting our suppliers on a regular basis. She loves solving challenging problems, so the unpredictability of monsoonal weather and transport logistics are only minor.

Having worked alongside Jodie at Bholu, Lucy says Jodie is the reason she joined as part of our founding team. “I am happy to be involved in anything she does. I know it will be beautiful and that we will work with integrity.”

Kristen
Lindesay

Product Development

Kristen works a year ahead of our team, identifying design trends and assembling new ideas for our creative direction. Research, collaboration and planning are key areas of her position and she collaborates closely with Jodie and Sally and travels regularly to India to translate their vision and bring concepts to life. Kristen’s degree in Fine Arts majoring in textiles makes her well qualified for this position and brings a unique perspective to our product development and design. As well, she ably undertakes the responsibility of event and trade fair design/planning.

When it comes to home styling, she suggests a rug with texture will add dimension and warmth to a room without dominating the space. Our Petunia weave is the rug she most identifies with, saying it is sophisticated and down to earth – two things she aspires to be.

Sally
Pottharst

Founder & Director

Sally’s role at Armadillo&Co provides vital leadership in steering our strategic direction, managing our finances and growth and working hands on with our weavers in India to finesse designs. Sally’s Virgo tendencies and attention to detail are a huge asset to the duo.

Sally’s background is as a Chartered Accountant, but she has a strong creative side. While purchasing Bholu cushions for her floor covering business, she and Jodie met and suggested they initiate a Bholu range of rugs. This ultimately led to them founding Armadillo&Co in 2009 and Sally has never looked back since.

She is passionate about helping our artisans and their families in a manner that’s effective and appropriate, respecting their culture and traditions. “I love that we make a real difference in the lives of our people in India who are so talented and strive to create our vision.” Sally is also a board member of The Anganwadi Project.

Originally from Zimbabwe and now based in Adelaide, Sally lives in an open plan farmhouse in the Adelaide Hills with her husband, her two school age children, two Jack Russells, four alpacas and fifty sheep.

Exemplifying our ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ philosophy, Pax unleashes his own creativity at home in the shed “turning old stuff into something new and useful” and being an inspiring father for his baby son.

Were he to be one of our rugs, Pax nominates himself as an indoor-outdoor Harvest or Safari rug – made for the outdoors, but feeling just as at home indoors.

Rachel

Accuracy, an ability to multitask and timeliness are some of the attributes Rachel, our Accounts Clerk, brings to her position. Tasked with processing orders and invoices, she is one of the final people involved in each rug’s journey from raw material to customer’s floor. Describing herself as kind, optimistic, reliable, strong and brave, Rachel was keen to join Armadillo&Co because of our team and our company culture.

Originally from Suzhou, China, and now based in Sydney, Rachel suggests the Great Wall of China as a good fit for our displaying our rugs. She sees a relatedness in the historical site and traditional weaving methods and in the handmade origins of both.

Accounts Clerk

Joyce our Accounts Clerk brings strong attention to detail, efficiency and accuracy to her position. She was attracted to our company culture and the sense of teamwork in our Sydney office. Her work processing orders and preparing dispatches ensures each customer’s rug is delivered as soon as possible – and, importantly, that money flows back to our artisans’ and weavers’ villages to improve their and their children’s lives.

While she describes herself as confident, logical, outgoing, positive and fun, Joyce has a gentle side, too. If she could be one of our rugs, she would be a Marigold from our Perennial Collection – delicate and beautiful.
